Better safe than sorry
Everyone expects to leave First Robotics in the same condition that they arrived - healthy and uninjured! The NUAMES Safety Team takes this goal very seriously. We have been working hard on making sure all our team members are properly tained and have a safe work environment. This is how we make it happen:
- Team members received CPR training. Every member of the First Robotics team is CPR certified.
- We asked an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist to come inspect our shop. He gave several recommendations that we put into place. Periodic inspections of the work area happen during the build season to make sure we are staying on track.
- We wrote Job Safety Analysis (JSA) sheets for all our hand tools and power tools. These JSA's have been made available to all team members and provide documentation for the proper usage of each tool.
- We have a complete FIRST AID KIT available when team members are working and document any mishaps. So far our mishaps have been limited to a few cuts. When something happens we talk about what could have been done differently so the mishap didn't happen.
- In preparation for the First Competition that will be held at the Maverik Center. we have established an evacuation plan and have directions to the nearest hospital if needed. Team members will be briefed on the evacuation plan when we arrive at the Maverik Center for competition.
- Subject specific training is held weekly. Team members sign a rooster and are quizzed to make sure they understand the training.
